Book #54: Franny and Zooey: A Novel

“It’s everybody, I mean. Everything everybody does is so—I don’t know, not wrong, or even mean, or even stupid necessarily. But just so tiny and meaningless—and sad-making. And the worst part is, if you go bohemian or something crazy like that, you’re conforming just as much as everybody else, only in a different way.”
I may have read this book because I felt that I ought to. I also feel that I ought to like Salinger. I don’t. To be completely honest, I don’t even remember why I didn’t like this book in the first place, but I know that it has left no impact on me. Essentially, it’s the story of the two youngest of seven Glass children. It’s a story of highly educated, intellectually superior children. Children who are on the edge of mental breakdown. Privileged children. Nothing new, nothing exciting.
Please don’t shoot me.
